The best answer to that question is….to create STYLE – and a beautiful custom look!  Decorating can be expensive and it’s important that you finish your room with framed artwork that enhances your decor and shows off the beautiful job you’ve done with the rest of the furnishings.  If you want your room to truly express your taste, be sure that at least one print or photograph in the room has fabric mats.  You can choose a fabric that matches your  decor and beautifully frames the artwork at the same time.  Choose silk or textured linen for a formal look, gingham for a child’s room, coarse burlap or for an office, etc.   In some cases, the fabric you are using as an accent in the room may be appropriate for a fabric wrapped mat so you can actually tie the framing in directly by coordinating it with your other accessories.

Fabric mats work well on a variety of artwork, from a formal portrait to an original drawing or photo.  With fabric, you expand the number of choices available to you and you always get a truly custom finish.   A fabric mat adds a subtle touch of luxury as well as texture, tone and STYLE to the room.

You should also consider using a fillet (a narrow strip of wood set in between the mat and the art) to really give the piece a beautiful finish.  And remember when designing with fabric to select a UV protected acrylic or glass product to protect against fading.  Then hang up your finished creation and get ready for compliments!

Matting is a key element in your frame design and it is functional as well as nice looking.  The purpose of the mat is to create space between the art and the glass so that the art does not touch the glass.  This serves to prevent damage from condensation – especially important with photographs.

Matting enhances the art by adding color, depth and size.  Using two or three mats, gives the work a three dimensional look.  The wider the mat, the more space between the art and frame and the more the art is allowed to shine.  We always recommend at least two mats to give your finished framing a custom look.

Mats come in a huge variety of colors and textures which allows you to fully coordinate the art with your décor.  We can even wrap a mat with fabric to make your work completely custom and unique.

At Artistic HangUps, we only use 100% cotton rag mats.  These archival quality mats ensure that your work will be protected and look beautiful for years to come.

It takes as little as an hour, and as long as 2 weeks depending on the circumstances.

If you purchase a readymade frame and mat, we can assemble a piece fairly quickly, even “while-you-wait” if necessary.  We have lots of custom readymade frames and pre-cut mats in stock.  We custom make readymade frames in standard sizes and offer a few different moulding styles.

If your artwork requires custom framing, we can frame it for you in 2 weeks or less.  Occasionally, we have trouble getting the custom materials and it may take a little longer, but we work hard to meet the promised completion date — and, we are willing to rush things for you whenever you need something done in a hurry.  Rush jobs have a few charges involved – a $15 rush fee if we have to work extra time to finish it, and shipping fees because we aren’t waiting for our weekly (free) delivery.  We keep our rush charges as low as possible and we work hard to offer you fast framing services.  Thank you for your business!

Yes, we will gladly pack and ship for you. Shipping art can be tricky – not to mention expensive but when you get something framed at Artistic HangUps, you’re practically ready to ship!  We frame every piece with care and put protective cardboard on each corner.  We then shrinkwrap it to keep the corners attached.  From there, if you’d like us to ship for you, we wrap it in enough bubble wrap to provide a 2″ cushion all around, and place it in the box with additional padding as needed. Pricing will depend upon the shipping charges.  We don’t mark up the charges, so you get the convenience for free and pay what it would cost to do it yourself.

If you know you will be shipping the item when you order your custom framing, be sure to let us know because we will recommend plexiglass for your glazing.  Plexiglass is a wonderful glazing product because it it lightweight and even if it would somehow crack in shipping, it would never harm your art.  It can be ordered as regular clear or  non-glare, and can include UV protection.

When do You Need Custom Framing?

There are a few answers to that question.

First, you need custom framing if your artwork or photograph does not fit into a standard sized frame.   You can find the closest sized standard frame and have a mat cut to fit but that is not considered custom framing.  We still classify that as ‘off the shelf’ framing and sometimes it fits the bill.   However, if your artwork or photo cannot be fitted into a standard sized frame, you need custom framing where we cut a mat and/or frame to perfectly fit your work.

You also need custom framing if you want the framed work to fit your decor.  With custom framing, you can select the perfect color, style and size to properly enhance your artwork.  Custom framing can be daunting because there are so many choices but our design staff is expert at helping you make the right selection.  They are trained to understand the proper design elements and help you choose the look that will make your custom framing a work of art in itself.

And finally, you need custom framing if the artwork is valuable and you want to preserve it.  With conservation framing, the materials that are used protect your art.  The mounting and matting materials are acid free to reduce the breakdown of the paper used for the art, and the conservation glass protects from light and environmental elements.
